Amanda Kilcrease

Amanda Kilcrease (she/her/hers) is a Graduate Student Intern Therapist. She is a Master of Social Work student at the University of Texas at Austin. Amanda has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Minor in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin. Amanda was born and raised in El Paso, TX and has lived in Austin for the last six years while completing school.

Amanda finds engaging in therapy to be one form of self-compassion, which then helps us to carry more compassion into the world. Amanda is committed to working with clients to foster a safe and brave space for therapy – where your authentic self will be appreciated and affirmed, and where you can feel empowered to be vulnerable. She deeply values the connection that simply sitting with someone else’s experience brings.

Amanda believes that we as individuals are greatly impacted by the systems and structures we exist within. She hopes to accompany people on their journey of navigating their own hopes and hardships, while working to create systems that are more accessible and caring. Amanda is a passionate advocate for social justice and equity for all identities and is committed to a lifetime of learning and anti-oppressive work.

Amanda practices from a trauma-informed, client-centered, and strengths-based approach. She is passionate about understanding how our nervous systems react to difficult experiences and joining you in exploring and navigating the impacts your experiences have had on you and your life. Amanda holds great value for the resilience and knowledge you already possess and aims to build upon that while working toward what is important to you. Finally, she hopes to collaborate with you to create a trusting and comforting therapeutic relationship, while learning your story, the way you wish to tell it.

Amanda is honored and proud to connect with clients from so many communities and walks of life. Beyond Waterloo and school, Amanda works as a part-time barista, spends quality time with her loved ones, goes outside & ventures to new places, and usually has a show on in the background that she’s not paying much attention to.
